Miss McCaffery spent her childhood in New England, and attended middle and high school in Thousand Oaks, California. From there she attended University of San Diego where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences with a Minor in Spanish. Upon graduating, Miss McCaffery realized her call to teach, and joined the PLACE Corps through Loyola Marymount University where she earned a Masters of Arts in Secondary Education as well as a California State Teaching Credential. Through PLACE, she was began teaching at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, CA, where she taught Math and Science for five years. This year, she is excited to join the middle school team and teach 5th-8th Grade Math at NDA!
The Middle School Math curriculum is designed to not only teach the foundations of math skills and to prepare for high school and beyond, but to teach students how to solve real world problems. Through the use hands-on activities such as using manipulatives to model math strategies and inquiry activities where students investigate ideas before instruction, they will build a strong understanding of mathematical concepts.
