After 11 years of teaching in early elementary education, Mrs. Martin has found her love of teaching in first grade. Mrs. Martin is passionate about building a classroom environment in which students love to come to school eager to learn and grow. Students in her class are guided and challenged to become independent learners who use strategies for reading, solving real life math problems, and communicate effectively orally and through writing. Mrs. Martin loves to spend time with her husband and three children who are actively involved in sports and dance. She and her family are avid soccer fans and hope to travel to France for the Women’s World Cup in 2019.

Students in First grade can expect an academically driven curriculum, in a nurturing caring environment. Throughout this year, students prepare for higher grades by gaining the foundational skills they need to become great readers and mathematicians. In Math, students solve problems with real life applications using collaborate conversations and manipulatives. Students learn about changes over time in their community, transportation, and school through realia, technology and fieldtrips. Furthermore, She assists first graders in becoming more socially responsible for their actions and more independent, helping them become more self-sufficient as global citizens.
