Mr. Tanski is excited to be starting his first year here at NDAE. He brings over 25 years experience teaching music, privately and in Catholic schools, in the South Bay area. Mr. Tanski has BAs in both Music and Public Relations from Drury University in Missouri. Since 1995, he has created thriving music programs, first at St. Philomena’s School in Carson for 10 years and then at American Martyrs’ School in Manhattan Beach for the last 20 years. At both schools, he created continuing musical traditions and developed standards of musical excellence. He’s also helped develop music programs and served as a mentor teacher for several other Southern California public and parochial school music programs. Mr. Tanski has completed his Orff Level 1 certifications for Primary Music Education, is a Taiko Sensei, and feels strongly about a music curriculum that aligns with the California and National Music Education Standards while integrating the tenets of our Catholic Faith.
Mr. Tanski is also a working Blues musician, artist, and composer whose music can be heard regularly on Blues radio stations and programs around the world. He is a voting member of the Grammys and a sponsored artist with Mason & Hamlin Pianos, PianoDisc ProRecord, EarthWorks Audio High Definition Microphones, and Dexibell Keyboards. Mr. Tanski has a strong practical knowledge of the modern music industry and he is excited to bring this background into the classroom. For his TK through 5th grade classes and after school choir, Mr. Tanski will be focusing on helping students to discover their own love of music through vocal and instrumental performance using age appropriate music theory, history, and appreciation. Mr. Tanski’s Upper School music electives include Choir, Church Rock Band, Digital Composition, and Beginning Piano. When he’s not doing music, Mr. Tanski loves to spend time hiking and fishing in the mountains with his wife, two children, and their dog.
